Scenario generation and stochastic programming models for asset liability management
نویسنده
چکیده
In this paper we develop and test scenario generation methods for asset liability management models. We propose a multi-stage stochastic programming model for a Dutch pension fund. Both randomly sampled event trees and event trees tting the mean and the covariance of the return distribution are used for generating the coeecients of the stochastic program. In order to investigate the performance of the model and the scenario generation procedures we conduct rolling horizon simulations. The average cost and the risk of the stochastic programming policy are compared to the results of a simple xed mix model. We compare the average switching behavior of the optimal investment policies. Our results show that the performance of the multi-stage stochastic program could be improved drastically by choosing an appropriate scenario generation method.

A Defined Benefit Pension Fund ALM Model through Multistage Stochastic Programming
We consider an asset-liability management (ALM) problem for a defined benefit pension fund (PF). The PF manager is assumed to follow a maximal fund valuation problem facing an extended set of risk factors: due to the longevity of the PF members, the inflation affecting salaries in real terms and future incomes, interest rates and market factors affecting jointly the PF liability and asset p...

Financial institutions require sophisticated tools for risk management. For company-wide risk management both sides of the balance sheet should be considered, resulting in an integrated asset liability management approach. Stochastic programming models suit these needs well and have already been applied in the eld of asset liability management to improve nancial operations and risk management. ...

Dynamic financial analysis (DFA) is a technique which uses Monte Carlo simulation to investigate the evolution over time of financial models of funds, complex liabilities and entire firms. Although of increasing popularity, the drawback of DFA is the dearth of systematic methods for optimising model parameters for strategic financial planning. This paper introduces strategic DFA which employs t...
